⚖️ Highlights of RBG in the Supreme Court
During her 27 years on the U.S. Supreme Court, Justice Ginsburg helped reshape the legal landscape for gender equality, voting rights, and civil liberties.
Among her landmark majority opinions was United States v. Virginia (1996), which struck down the Virginia Military Institute’s male-only admissions policy — a sweeping declaration that government institutions cannot enforce gender-based barriers.
Equally famous were her dissents, like in Shelby County v. Holder (2013), where she warned that gutting the Voting Rights Act was “like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.” Her words, often sharp yet measured, became rallying cries for those who saw the law as a living promise of fairness.
💡 Little Known Fun Fact: Her “dissent collar,” worn on days she disagreed with the Court’s majority, became such an icon that it’s now part of museum collections and feminist fashion lines alike.
