Hall of Fame Spotlight – John Lewis

Civil rights leader and longtime Congressman, John Lewis embodied “Good Trouble” with his lifelong fight for justice. From leading the Selma march to shaping policy in Washington, his legacy is one of courage and moral clarity.

October 2025 is John Lewis Month

This month we honor John Lewis — Civil Rights icon, Freedom Rider, and the “Conscience of Congress.”
He taught us that democracy isn’t a spectator sport. It takes courage, persistence, and a willingness to get into good trouble.

John Lewis was a towering figure in the Civil Rights Movement and later a longtime Congressman. As one of the original Freedom Riders, he risked beatings and arrests to challenge segregation across the South. He led the Selma march in 1965, enduring brutal violence on “Bloody Sunday,” which became a turning point in the movement. Throughout his career, he urged Americans to make “Good Trouble” in the fight for equality and justice.

Fun Fact: As a boy, John Lewis practiced preaching by delivering sermons to his family’s chickens.

Stay tuned all month for stories, resources, and reflections.
